Suicide Prevention Month: MJLC Upholding and Safeguarding the Sanctity and Dignity of Life

The vision of the Mary and Joseph Life Centre (MJLC) is “A society where the dignity of human life, women and children, including the unborn, are free from violence and unjust social structures.”

Women and girls in urban slums and informal settlements often face overwhelming challenges, including economic hardship, poverty, social stigma, and rejection. These struggles can tragically lead to isolation and suicidal thoughts, especially in cases of unplanned or crisis pregnancies.

In response to these harsh realities, MJLC provides vital support to these expectant women and girls with crisis pregnancy counselling services, educational workshops and seminars, and economic livelihood resilience and entrepreneurship trainings. These programs underscore the sanctity and dignity of human life and empower them with holistic livelihood resilience capacity, survival skills, and mechanisms. This does not exclude men from availing themselves of assistance if needed.

In September, the Suicide Prevention Month, expectant women and girls benefited from free ultrasound services (sonogram) and crisis pregnancy counseling at the center. Young girls, women, and youth also participated in a mental health awareness workshop focused on #healing, #resilience, and the # gift of life. In addition, young mothers are being empowered through the MJLC livelihood program.

The center remains a sanctuary of honesty and hope through its empowerment workshops and holistic counseling sessions. Individuals can speak freely, release hidden burdens, and be reminded that even simply being alive is worth celebrating each day. In the same vein, life in all its highs and lows is precious, irreplaceable, and worth fighting for.

At MJLC, we reaffirm our commitment to being there for those in their darkest moments, offering clients (individuals and groups) engaged in more holistic and intensive counseling, support, and unwavering companionship. This is anchored on our firm resolve that:

#every heartbeat is a testimony of strength.

#every day lived is a victory even the quiet ones.

No one should feel like their absence would go unnoticed. To every young person, every mother, every soul navigating silent struggles, your life is not an accident. You are a child of God, loved, forgiven, and most precious to God’s Divine Spirit. Your presence holds meaning. The world is better because you are in it. Let us continue to speak life, protect life, and cherish life, both our own and that of others. #your life matters. #your story matters. #you are not alone.
